Teen After-School Pilot Program
Launching Fall 2026
Preparing Teens for Life Beyond High School with Confidence, Skills and Support
What This Program Is
A flexible 10–18 week after-school experience for 9th and 10th graders that combines:
• Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA)
• Resilience-building and stress-management skills
• Youth advocacy and leadership development
• Life-skills training for the transition out of high school
It blends prevention, practical tools, and hands-on learning so students build the confidence and capacity to navigate both everyday challenges and high-pressure moments.
The program is prevention-focused, non-clinical, taught by certified instructors, and designed to fit smoothly into existing after-school enrichment structures.
Why This Matters
Late adolescence is one of the most vulnerable developmental windows. Research shows:
• Mental health conditions often emerge between ages 18 and 21
• Stress spikes during major transitions, especially into college, work, or independent living
• Students frequently say they don’t know how to manage stress, support friends, or ask for help
• Only about 10% of 9th and 10th graders participate in after-school programs, leaving a major gap in services for older teens
Our pilot focuses on building skills before students hit that transition—so they enter young adulthood fully equipped with the tools, insight, and support they need to navigate through life.
What Students Learn
Through interactive activities, discussions, and real-life practice, students gain:
• How to recognize mental health challenges in themselves and friends
• How to start safe, supportive conversations
• How to connect peers to trusted adults and professional help
• How to manage stress and function under pressure
• How to advocate for mental wellness in their schools and communities
• How to build resilience, plan ahead, and make thoughtful decisions
• Leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
• A nationally recognized Teen Mental Health First Aid certification (good for 3 years)
